The compound MK-677, which also goes by the name ibutamoren, stimulates the production of growth
hormone (GH) and raises levels of insulin-like growth factor 1. (IGF-1). Ibutamoren mimics the function of
the hormone ghrelin and binds to one of the ghrelin receptors (GHSR) in the brain, which causes a rise in
the amount of growth hormone in the body.
The secretion of growth hormone from the brain is prompted by activation of the GHSR. Only the effects of ibutamoren on hunger are described in clinical investigations; thus, as was to be predicted, ibutamoren, like ghrelin, causes an increase in appetite. GHSR is located in areas of the brain that are responsible for regulating appetite, pleasure, mood, biological cycles, memory, and cognitive function.
